What is it like to reap the benefits of a adding rescue dog to your family? A new best friend? Endless tales of loyalty and love?
This success story is about Charlie, formerly known as Carrot. Charlie found "her" new home May 16, 2007.
Charlie's forever home wanted to share their personal connection with their new family member and offer a true example of the rewards in rescuing a dog from RROC.
Please join RROC in highlighting one of our special success stories straight from the family themselves. Enjoy and remember, these are just a few of those who represent how to be "A RROC for the animals".
We adopted Charlie Jayne on May 16th, and she is doing incredibly well! (Charlie Jayne is her pedigree name, and we haven't changed it, although we call her Charlie, or Charlie Girl.) She's sweet and playful and has slid easily into our lives and our routine. It didn't take us long to figure out that when it comes to other animals, especially dogs, Charlies wants nothing but play. In fact, a friend brought his dog Bear over yesterday, and, somehow over the course of the afternoon, Bear ended up with Charlie's favorite bone. No problem! Charlie just found something else to chew on until Bear was finished. A rather generous host, isn't she?
Because Charlie has a traditionally masculine name, we bought her a light brown color with pink spots. It looks stunning on her, and she shows it off well.
This week we're starting obedience classes with Charlie, which aren't essential but will be good for all of us. A neighbor who used to train, breed, and judge dogs came to meet Charlie and found out that Charlie has been very well trained; we wonder if her original family simply didn't keep up with the training. She sits, stays, and lies down without a problem. She also plays ball really well. (We're also teaching her to play frisbee. too.) Her main struggle is with walking; she just gets SO excited to smell something or meet someone that she pulls hard at times.

Our 4-year-old, Ivan, just adores Charlie. Our first dog, who had to put down in Dec 2005, didn't really play, so Ivan has had to learn how to play with a dog. After a couple of days he started to figure out how much fun he and Charlie can have, and they do great together. He throws the ball for her, shuts her in his room when he's in there alone (she helps keep the monsters away), loves to help walk her, feeds her, and loves having her on his bed during story time. They have become fast friends, as the picture shows.
Thanks yet again for all that all of you did for us!! We GREATLY appreciate your time, expertise, respect for our process, and input...things we struggled to find with other rescue agencies. If there's ever a family considering your agency who wants to talk with someone who has been through the process, please don't hesitate to give them our names and number. We'd be more than happy to pass on the good word.
Sincerely,
Charlie's Family
